Steve Pyke

"most of the time when i photograph someone now, it's a conversation you are having and it is more important than photography. the photography is a testimony to the meeting"

  • close up/ intimate portraits
  • these images feel like you are intruding on their personnel space!
  • interesting to consider what they would be like in colour. with red hair, what colour would add to the images?
"i believe photography has to deal with our own mortality. As soon as we press the shutter, the image becomes a part of our past. When you make a photograph, whether it is a portrait or still life, the end result becomes a symbol of what you saw, it is no longer the object you had attempted to represent. It has become a means created to extend our ways of seeing the truth"
